2007 Official Visit of Boynton Lodge No. 236 F&AM to Arawak Lodge No. 8877 in Freeport, Grand Bahama. At 5:30am on Friday, 20 April 2007, ten Freemasons and eight of their wives and Ladies were treated to VIP status aboard the cruise ship Discovery in Ft. Lauderdale. They assembled at the Dock in Port Everglades and made comfortable in their cabins by a crewmember specially assigned to them by the ship. As the cruise liner set sail from the Port at 7:30am, all members of the party were treated to a sumptuous buffet breakfast in the main dining hall. Though the seas rolled during the crossing through the Gulf Stream, the music, the cocktails on deck under a powder-blue sky, and the pure, clean sea-air provided our little party tremendous refreshment as we sailed our way across to Grand Bahama. Our special Crew took our vouchers and safely loaded everyone with their luggage on the waiting Vans that took us to Port Lucaya. Once there, we checked in and were treated to wonderful views of the harbour from our hotel rooms. At 5:45pm, our Party assembled in the lobby. The ladies were escorted to “Le Med” in Port Lucaya, and entertained by the wives and Ladies of our Bahamian Brethren. The Freemasons were transported to Arawak Lodge. Formal Lodge commenced at 6:30pm. Right Worshipfuls, Past Masters and the Brethren processed out and into the Dining Room at 9pm. The young man who had received the Entered Apprentice degree earlier, assisted as a Steward serving wine to the Brethren as they presented the Toasts of the evening. Harmony prevailed and the Festive Board ended with a toast to “all absent Brethren”. The next day dawned bright and cool. Our entire Party assembled with the Brethren of Arawak and Abaco’s Carlton Lodge for a breakfast by the water at “Le Med”. Some of us feasted on traditional Bahamian Breakfasts, like “Boil Fish and Johnnycakes” or “Sous Chicken”. We splintered into our own groups as the girls went shopping and the men walked across to the Resort Hotels on the beach to talk Masonry over cocktails in the afternoon sun. At 5:45pm, everyone assembled in casual dress in the lobby. Our Bahamian Brethren transported us in their cars to The Britannia Yacht Club for a buffet dinner of conch, fish and assorted delicacies under the stars. The evening turned cooler and everyone moved into the Restaurant as the birthday cake for Arawak’s Worshipful Master was presented. The next day again dawned cool and bright as we assembled once more for breakfast down by the water in Port Lucaya. We checked out, said our good bye’s to our Bahamian Brothers and their ladies, and were on the boat at 2:30pm for a sumptuous, exclusive 7 course meal on the return journey to Port Everglades. Another Official Visit goes into the History Books, and the Masonic relationship between Boynton, Arawak and Carlton Lodges; and all the Lodges of the Caribbean continues to grow and flourish. Truly, Freemasonry is harmony. -R/W Richard E. Philpott Proud member of Boynton Lodge No. 236 F&AM And Arawak Lodge No. 8877

Boynton Masonic Lodge # 236 trip to Scotland September 1st to September 9th, 2004
OFFICIAL VISIT OF ARAWAK LODGE No. 8877, FREEPORT , BAHAMAS July 23, 2004 was a fine day in the annals of The Craft. 96 Freemasons assembled to participate in a Fellowcraft Degree in Palm Beach County, Florida. The occasion was the annual Official Visit of Arawak Lodge No. 8877 of the English Constitution, to Boynton Lodge No. 236 of the Grand Lodge of Florida. For ten years, the two Lodges have carried on close fraternal relations across the Gulfstream between this Florida seacoast town of Boynton Beach, and Freeport, Grand Bahama. The dignity of the evening was evident, when at 6:30PM; Lodge was opened in the Master’s Degree with the contingent from Arawak Lodge present in full United Grand Lodge of England Masonic Regalia. Attending this evening were dignitaries from several appendant bodies and Freemasons from various parts of the world. The entire Divan of Amara Shrine Temple sat in the southeast corner of the Lodgeroom in green Blazers. About the Lodge were past Grand Masters, past and present Deputy Grand Masters, District Deputy Grand Masters, and sitting Worshipful Masters of the several Lodges in the vicinity. Freemasons were represented from as far away as South Africa, Syria, England, The Netherlands, Israel and the Panama Canal Zone. WM Geoff Shank welcomed R.W. Bro. James Bain, the sitting District Grand Master of the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands; and W. Bro. Maitland Cates, that jurisdiction’s Past Asst. District Grand Master, to the East. The sitting Worshipful Master of Arawak Lodge, W.B. Andrew Roberts was welcomed to his left, along with the DDGM of his District, R.W. Richard E. Philpott; and the District Instructor, R.W. Robert Stearns in their appropriate places in the East. Several other Dignitaries were invited to a seat in the East in welcome. By traditional ball ballot that evening, three members of Arawak Lodge were voted into Boynton Lodge as regular members. W.B. Andrew Roberts, W.B. Tyrone Sweeting, and the JD of Arawak Lodge, Bro. Sean Callender. It was noted that under English Constitution, no Junior Deacon would ever find himself in the East. That night, Bro. Sean achieved a seat in the East in welcome. Boynton Lodge was stepped down, and its Entered Apprentice Brother Michael Floering, was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft. W.B. Robtert C. Mandell delivered the Fellowcraft lecture. Lodge was closed in the Master’s Degree at 9:30PM and the Craft retired to Atlantis Country Club for a rousing Festive Board. This evening of close Masonic fellowship sealed another chapter in the continuing story of genuine Fraternal ties between these members of the Craft. The wives and Ladies joined the Brethren at Atlantis Country Club on the following evening for a wonderful dinner and show, featuring live entertainment, dancing and a mysterious Magical Act starring a Magician and his Assistant booked from the Caribbean Cruise Lines.
ROYAL ORDER OF SCOTLAND JUNE 12th, 2004 Four members of Boynton Lodge # 236, W. Bro. Thomas Mangold, W. Bro. Chuck Field, Bro. Wayne Hansen, and Bro. John Karroum, were Knighted as member of the Royal Order Of Scotland in a ceremony held in Dallas, Texas.
There is a tradition among the Masons of Scotland that, after the dissolution of the Templars, many of the Knights repaired to Scotland and placed themselves under the protection of Robert Bruce and that, after the battle of Bannockburn, which took place on St. John the Baptist's day (in summer), 1314, this monarch instituted the Royal Order of H.R.M. and Knights of the R.S.Y.C.S. and established the chief seat at Kilwinning. From that Order it seems by no means improbable that the present Degree of Rose Croix de Heredom may have taken its origins. Whatever may have been the origin and foundation of the Royal Order of Scotland, its claim to the oldest, if not, indeed, the only Masonic Order of Knighthood, is presumably valid. The Order of Knights Templar Masons was instituted by Freemasons, but has nothing Masonic in its ritual. With regard to the veridical history of the Order, there is presumptive evidence, a a Provincial Grand Lodge met in London in 1696 and indubitable evidence to show that in 1730, here was a Provincial Grand Lodge of the Order in South Britain, which met at the Thistle and Crown, in Chandos Street Charing Cross, whose constitution is described as being of 'Time Immemorial'. According to Thory, Prince Charles Edward Stuart, in 1747, issued his famous Arras Charter, in which he claimed to be Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Order. Boynton Lodge 236 F&AM Visits Arawak Lodge No. 8877 F&AM 19 March 2004 Freemasons and Officers of Boynton Lodge No. 236 F&AM assembled at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport at 0700 on Friday, 19 March 2004, for an 18 minute Jet Flight to Freeport, Grand Bahama. The occasion was what has become a semi-annual visit to Arawak Lodge No. 8877, a Lodge holden under the English Constitution, and our sister Lodge in the Caribbean. Upon arrival and check-in at the Royal Oasis Country Club, Officers and Members were met at 5:30pm by members of Arawak for transportation to the Lodge. Ladies were joined by the wives and Ladies of our Arawak Brethren for a night on the town. At Lodge, the Brethren of both Lodges united for cocktails in the sophisticated elegance of their Fellowship Hall. Under soft lighting, the walls behind the Bar depict the location of all Masonic Lodges in the region of the Caribbean Sea around the Bahamas. At 6:30pm, Freemasons were summoned into the Lodge room and the Communication was called to Order. Officers were seated in ceremony, and the business of the Lodge was begun. The evening witnessed an Entered Apprentice Degree for Bahamian Brother Simpson, and the acceptance of five members of Boynton Lodge into Arawak as Dual Members. They are Brothers David Curtis, John Karroum, Richard Philpott, Wayne Hansen and Geoffrey Shank – the current Worshipful Master of Boynton Lodge. At 10pm, Lodge was closed and the Festive Board commenced in the Fellowship Hall. Toasts were offered at 11pm and continued for the next two hours. The following day, Freemasons from all over the Caribbean assembled at Geneva’s Restaurant for an authentic Bahamian breakfast of “Boil Fish”, “Stew Fish” and “Johnnycakes” with the Ladies. At 6:30pm, Freemasons and their Ladies journeyed by bus and car to the settlement of Deadman’s Reef, out by Eight Mile Rock. They converged at Brother Heinz’s Restaurant on the Ocean. It is a beautiful location on the beach, under the stars at the edge of the sea. The atmosphere was buffet style Caribbean fare, and all enjoyed the evening. The pictures below tell the story. The following morning was spent individually. The Boynton contingent flew back to Ft. Lauderdale at 5:30pm. We now look forward to Arawak’s visit to Boynton Lodge in the United States.

Right Worshipful Brother Charles Mead PDDGM acted as Installing Master. Right Worshipful Brother David Lund PDDGM acted as installing Chaplain, and Worshipful Brother Gary Dolins was the Installing Marshal. All are Past-Masters of our Lodge. Dress is always suitably appropriate. Information pertaining to the slate of 2004 Officers can be found on the “Officers” page of this website. Here below are photographs of the occasion:

Freemasons gather in Freeport March 21-23rd, 2003 Freeport, Grand Bahamas…Freemasons from around the Caribbean as far away as Bermuda, gathered for the weekend of March 21-23. The occasion was a celebration of Freemasonry and the Official visit of Boynton Lodge No. 236 F&AM to Arawak Lodge No. 8877. Begun as a tradition in 1994, when eight Masons chartered an airplane in West Palm Beach and flew into Bahamian airspace for the evening, the occasion has grown to include as many as twenty Freemasons and their Ladies. From the original eight in the party this weekend, were Dick Philpott and Tom Mangold, both Past-Masters of Boynton Lodge. “We raise a Toast to those fallen Brothers…” said Philpott, “They accompanied us in life, and together we traveled for awhile along the same path. It was fun.” The original eight included Pat Malone, a native-born resident of Abaco. It was he who originally provided the link between the two lodges. Affectionately known as “Red-socks” by the members of Arawak, for his habit of wearing loud socks to Lodge, Malone was Past Master of Carlton Lodge in Abaco, Grand Bahama. “Pat started coming to Boynton Lodge when he visited his son, who lived in Boynton Beach.” said Philpott. “ His son was not a Freemason, and I guess Pat missed the company of the Brethren. One night, after Lodge and in a local Tavern, Pat told me that he wished the Masons from Boynton Lodge could meet the Masons of his Lodge in Freeport. I said, Let’s do it! Our Worshipful Master was 24 at the time, and heir to a cheese fortune. He chartered an airplane out of West Palm and I arranged with the Secretary of Arawak, for a special dispensation changing its regular meeting night to that Friday of our visit. We were late flying out of Bahamian airspace that night, but the Junior Warden approved our delay. He was the Minister of Customs for the Bahamas.” Since that original visit, Bahamian Freemasons and their ladies have come regularly to the US to be entertained by the members of Boynton Lodge and their ladies. Among the highlights of this weekend’s trip, was a visit to “The Buccaneer” Restaurant. “It was truly amazing! We would never have found this place on our own. Our Bahamian Brethren picked us up on Saturday night and we began to drive. We drove for close to an hour until we turned off onto an unmarked single lane, dirt road. Branches were hitting the car as we drove. We finally pulled up in front of a Building on the beach. All the other cars were there, and we were shown into this cozy Restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The beach on which it was located had no other structures…it was absolutely beautiful for as far as you could see. We were served a magnificent dinner. Afterwards, some of us strolled out into the ocean on the Dock. It was pitch black and only the iridescence of the phosphorous glowed in the water. It was like a path stretching out into the ocean. Life doesn’t get any better! When we returned to the Restaurant, a man walked in and started blowing a Trumpet. This announced the arrival of an entire Junkanoo Band, that danced and entertained for half-an-hour.” The Boynton Freemasons and their ladies returned to the U.S. on Sunday aboard the Discovery. Brothers:It was a memorable event and We hope that you can join us on the next trip in 2004.
